Art Room News for the First Quarter

As the first quarter runs down, we are going through lots of paint, focusing on our painting skills in the primary grades - experimenting with brushstrokes and mixing colors.  Second and third graders worked on portraits - family portraits in the second grade and group portraits in the third grade.  Fourth, fifth and sixth graders used art history as a starting point for their art projects.  Matisse is the artist whose work inspired our intermediate students, while our sixth graders learned about Egyptian art as they made their mummies.  Seventh and eighth grades developed drawing skills as they worked on a still life in charcoal, using shading to show volume.
